Calls for Solomon Islands govt to better educate rural resource owners

10:23 am on 20 June 2007

A female leader on Isabel in Solomon Islands is calling on the government to better educate rural resource owners about the best way to develop their natural resources.

The President of Isabel Mothers Union, Doreen Ata, says often resource owners were misled into entering into ventures with overseas investors.

She says many do so without thinking about the likely consequences such development would have on the environment and on future generations.

She told the SIBC that the government should provide information to land and resource owners so they can make better informed decisions.
