The United Nations Development Fund's Pacific representative, Najib Assifi, says Pacific governments must assist their youth.
Mr Assifi is in New Zealand's capital, Wellington, to launch the UNDFP's State of World Population 2007 report which focusses on urbanisation with a youth supplement attached.
He says governments need to assist in programmes for youth and their needs should not be neglected.
Mr Assifi says however, the process has started in the Pacific region following the Parliamentary conference held in Apia in May which looked at safeguarding Pacific youth.
"What sort of opportunities should be in place in those countries , so that young people use their potentials in the society and be effective members of the society the conference was very useful in gaining the commitments of various Pacific Island parliamentarians."
The report will be launched in 30 countries simultaneously.
