Papua New Guinea's East New Britain Province is tightening up quarantine procedures on land and sea.

The National Quarantine and Inspection is trying to control the cocoa pod borer epidemic and a chicken disease that surfaced in the province last year.

The Post Courier reports the NAQIA are locking down on all points where there is heavy movement of people and trading.

Noel Pagapaga, who is assisting with quarantine operations, said the main checkpoints are at Skowhegan , Pomio transit at Takubar and the wharf in Kokopo.
