Rennell-Bellona province in Solomon Islands is to host the first premiers conference to be held in seven years.

The Solomon Islands Broadcasting Commission reports that the permanent secretary of the Ministry of Provincial Government, Fred Ganate, made the announcement after cabinet had indicated willingness to support the hosting.

Mr Ganate says the conference will be held at Kiakoe resort in east Rennell.

He says the hosting of the conference will cost the ministry about one-million dollars.

Mr Ganate says the tentative date to hold the conference is September 3.

He says the budget for the conference will be included in the Parliament meeting next month as a supplementary.

The last premier's conference was held in Buala, Isabel Province in 2000.
