The United States and China have agreed to relax their civil air transport agreements to allow more air services between China to Guam and the Commonwealth of the Northern Marianas.

According to documents provided to the Legislature by CNMI Washington Representative Pete Tenorio, officials from China and the U.S. met on separate occasions in April and May to iron out the details.

The Marianas Variety newspaper reports Rep. Tenorio as saying the new agreement provides for unlimited scheduled air services between the three destinations.

Air China has said it plans to operate two flights per week between Beijing and Saipan from July 15, but its application has yet to be approved.
