The World Wildlife Fund in Solomon Islands says its research shows marine and coastal environments were badly damaged by the tsunami which devastated parts of the Western and Choiseul provinces three months ago.

Following a survey the WWF marine team went underwater to assess the impacts on the coral, fish and invertebrate population.

The team observed that in many areas, the marine and coastal environments were badly damaged and an area of high biodiversity off Njari Island had been reduced to rubble.

The Boboe community on Kohingo have also been damaged and a coral farm set up as a sustainable livelihood project has been badly affected.
