American Samoa plans to stop alcohol sales to minors

A bill being introduced in American Samoa by the Togiola administration would make it illegal for minors to possess or consume alcohol.

Governor Togiola Tulafono says the bill is the result of consultations with the Family, Drug and Alcohol Court, and the Department of Social Services.

He says while it is illegal in American Samoa to sell alcohol to minors, it is not illegal for minors to consume alcohol or possess liquor.

He said the bill he's submitting seeks to prohibit the consumption and possession of alcohol by minors and expand the places where it is illegal to consume alcohol.
