The American Samoan governor is to submit legislation to establish the Tourism Office as an independent authority.
Togiola Tulafono announced this at the opening of the fono, saying the new entity's proposed name is the American Samoa Visitor's Bureau.
At present the Tourism Office is a division of the Department of Commerce.
The current empolyees are to be transferred to the new organisation which is to get advice from the Office of Samoan Affairs to address any cultural concerns that may come about.
