A petroleum company from Dubai wants to do a feasibility study on the possibility of setting up an oil refinery in Fiji.

The Fijilive news website says this follows talks in Dubai between a delegation led by the interim minister for trade and commerce, Taito Waradi, and a number of Middle Eastern investors.

The Fiji Trade and Investment Bureau says the talks highlighted the current demand for petroleum products and its by-products in Fiji and other Pacific island countries.

A representative from a Dubai company will also visit Fiji soon to explore the possibility of setting up a financial institution to provide a full range of merchant banking services.
