Fiji nurses ready to defy regime and go on strike - reports

2:50 pm on 11 July 2007

Fiji's nurses are reported to have distanced themselves from the agreement with the interim government to call off planned strike action.

An agreement was signed with the Fiji Teachers Union and the Fiji Public Service Association to accept pay cuts as determined by the interim regime.

The unions accepted the government offer to restore 1 per cent of the 5 per cent pay cut from December.

But the Fiji Nursing Association's general secretary Kuini Lutua has told Fijilive that her members are unhappy with the settlement and will go on strike on July the 24th.
