Samoa passports to cost more

8:04 am on 12 July 2007

Samoan citizens in American Samoa have criticized the lack of notice by the Samoa Government concerning the doubling of fees for passports.

Last Monday the Samoa Consulate Office in Pago Pago began charging $200 US dollars for new Samoan passports processed at their office.

No public notices were issued either in Apia or locally about the increase in fees.

A staff member at the Samoa consulate office in the territory said they were notified the previous Friday that Cabinet has approved the doubling of passport fees and that the increase would go into effect last Monday.

All Samoa missions overseas will charge $200 dollars in the currency of the country they are in.
