Samoa Attorney General reviews assistant police commissioner case

7:16 pm on 18 July 2007

Samoa's Attorney General, Aumua Ming Leung Wai, is reviewing for a second time the investigation against a suspended assistant police commissioner.

The assistant police commissioner is alleged to have tried to rape two policewomen in separate incidents in May.

The attorney general says the police commissioner, Papali'i Lorenese Neru, has returned the file to him for further review based on small other matters relating to the investigation.

Aumua has not confirmed that after his first review, he recommended to file criminal charges.

A reliable source says the police are to lay charges this week based on the recommendation.

Meanwhile, the police commissioner has told the Samoa Observer newspaper that early reports on the attorney general's recommendation were wrong.
