The American Samoa Environmental Protection Agency has advised five villages in the territory to boil water for consumption after e-coli bacteria was found in the villages' water systems.

The Agency says bacteria was found in water systems for the villages of Fagamalo, Fagalii, Vatia, Afono and Onenoa during water monitoring on the 9th and 11th of July.

People are advised to use boiled or bottled water.

Water systems for these villages are not connected to the main government water lines.
