10:09 am on 20 July 2007

Citizens of Samoa who are overstayers and are guaranteed a job at one of the canneries in American Samoa, can apply for amnesty now under the guest worker permit act.

The territory's Attorney General Fepuleai Afa Ripley says that the amnesty provision became law as soon as the governor signed the bill.

By his count, he says the 90 day period in which overstayers can apply for amnesty will be over by the end of next month.

He says that its necessary to publicize that the application period is now open, but admitted that this hasn't been done although he intends to issue an announcement soon.
