A directive to revoke the license in Papua New Guinea of mobile phone operator, Digicell, is being called unlawful and ambiguous.

The CEO of the country's Independent Consumer and Competition Commission, or ICCC, says the license was wrongly revoked by PANGTEL, the PNG Radiocommunications and Telecommunication Technical Authority.

Thomas Abe says based on legal advice, the licences issued to Digicel were valid.

He says the directive to Pangtel by the State Enterprise, Information and Development Minister, Arthur Somare, to Pangtel to revoke the license was unlawful and ambiguous.

Digicell has appealed the decision.
