Solomon Islands' Parliamentary speaker not happy with behaviour of MPs

8:57 am on 1 August 2007

Solomon Islands' first Prime Minister and the current Parliamentary Speaker, Sir Peter Kenilorea, says he is not happy with the behaviour of MPs.

He has told the Commission of Inquiry into last year's riot in Honiara that he had had high hopes that the behaviour of MPs would improve but that seems not to be the case.

He says with the background and level of education MPs now have, they have advantages over leaders in the period before and after independence.

Sir Peter says despite this current MPs spend their time politicking rather rendering service to the country.
