The Palau Marine Industries Corporation or PMIC has been ordered to pay 5.9 million US dollars in taxes to the government.

The judgment by Associate Justice Kathleen Salii was a result of charges by the government's Ministry of Finance that PMIC was liable for gross receipt taxes owed for fiscal years 1999-2004 plus penalties and interest.

Associate Justice Salii's decision negated PMIC's defense that the contested amounts were based upon reimbursed amounts for payments of supplies such as fuel, bait, ice and other expenses.

The attorney for PMIC said the company intends to appeal against the decision.
