Samoa's chief executive officer for the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure says the government has yet to receive notification from the United States Transport Authority about granting 15 airline the right to fly to Samoa.

The US reportedly granted 15 American airlines the rights to operate in and out of Samoa.

Va'aelua Nofo says the US is a signatory to a multilateral agreement on international air travel and has the right to designate as many airlines as it wishes.

But he says such designations have to be transmitted to the concerned parties in writing through diplomatic or other appropriate channels.

Va'aelua says his office has not received any applications so far.
