The Pacific Islands Private Sector Organisation says good governance is key if businesses in the region are to thrive.

PIPSO is convening its first Pacific Islands Business Forum, involving private sector and government delegates from 14 Forum Islands countries.

Its chairman, James Movick says they want to find ways to encourage private businesses and governments to work together to ecourage economic growth in the Pacific.

"A facilitating environment is needed, one where there is transparency, good governance, a level playing field, public security, public law and order, that government should reduce the level of unnecessary regulations, they should desist from participating actively in direct commercial operations, these types of actions that governments need to take in order to create an enabling environment for business."

PIPSO has organised the forum in Nadi Fiji with the support of the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat and the United Nations Development Programme.
