ANZ in Solomon Islands welcomes govt's plans

10:01 am on 7 August 2007

The ANZ Bank in Solomon Islands says it is happy to be a partner in the government's efforts to make banking services available to the rural population.

This follows the signing of documents with the government enabling ANZ to install ATMs or automatic teller machines, in the first six provincial centres as well as in some of the Distance Learning centres and Post offices.

The Minister for Finance and Treasury, Gordon Darcy Lilo, told the SIBC that the strategy employed by the bank will enable the rural population participate in economic activities.

ANZ has already started mobile banking on Guadalcanal and has installed an ATM at Tetere to serve the surrounding communities.
