Fiji leader confirms Forum attendance in Tonga

1:03 pm on 8 August 2007

Fiji's military commander and interim prime minister, Commodore Frank Bainimarama, says he will attend the Pacific Islands Forum in Tonga in October even if Australia and New Zealand have objections.

Commodore Bainimarama told Fijilive that he will attend unless Tonga removes him from the Tongan airport.

He says he is not bothered about opposition to his attendance by New Zealand and Australia.

He says he won't be losing any sleep if he doesn't get kisses on the cheeks from the New Zealand foreign minister, Winston Peters, or the Australian foreign minister Alexander Downer.
