Solomon Islander dies after brawl in Vanuatu's capital, Port Vila

A Solomon Islander who was studying in Vanuatu has died in a Port Vila hospital days after reportedly being beaten by bouncers at a nightclub in the capital.

The Solomon Times reports that Paul Sokoiasi, a first-year student at the Law faculty of the University of the South Pacific in Vila, was pronounced dead late yesterday afternoon.

Reports state that the the student went into a coma since early Saturday morning after suffering beatings by security officers of Club Vanuatu in Port Vila.

SIBC News reports that Solomon Islands government authorities are making arrangements to bring the student's body home tomorrow.

Paul Sokoiasi was a government sponsored student studying at the Vanuatu USP campus and had only arrived in Vila two weeks ago.

Reports from Vanuatu have stated that at least four men have been arrested in relation to the incident.
