Solomons speaker throws out Haomae no-confidence motion

3:58 pm on 16 August 2007

The speaker of the Solomon Islands parliament, Sir Peter Kenilorea, has ruled that the no confidence motion in the Prime Minister, submitted by MP William Haomae is inadmissible.

Mr Haomae had submitted notice of the no confidence motion last Friday just hours after a first motion by another opposition MP Edward Huniehu had been withdrawn.

According to the Solomon Islands Broadcasting Corporation, Sir Peter says standing orders show the motion to be out of order because it attempts to raise specific questions which parliament had already taken a decision on.

He said Mr Huniehu's no confidence motion last week raised questions similar to matters raised in Mr Haomae's motion.
