The American Samoa Medical and Dental Association, made up mostly of doctors who graduated from the Fiji School of Medicine, intends to seek legal action to protect their jobs.
The Hospital Authority Board has informed the association that they must sit and pass parts 1 and 2 of the United States Medical Licensure Exam by June 30th next year as a condition of continued employment at the LBJ Hospital.
A member of the Association, Dr. Richard Ripley, says they have an attorney to take their case to court.
He said it would be different if they had been told after they graduated about this policy but after decades of working at LBJ , they are being forced to take the exam.
He said their financial resources have been committed; they have loans to pay and families to look after.
Dr Ripley says preparing for the exam requires full time studies.
