Preliminary results from yesterday's general election in Kiribati show that President Anote Tong has retained his seat.
James Tom has also be declared a winner as vote counting is under way.
Results from the other 42 seats are expected to be declared in the course of the afternoon.
More than 40,000 voters were registered for the election.
