A report from Fiji says two local judges will sit alongside Justice John Byrne when the Court of Appeal convenes next week for its second session of the year.

The Daily Post says they are Justice Devendra Pathik and Justice Isikeli Mataitoga.

This has been confirmed by the president of the Fiji Law Society, Devanesh Sharma, who says they were informed by Appeal Judge John Byrne.

Mr Sharma says this is a good opportunity for local judges to sit on the Court of Appeal which is usually taken up by judges from Australia and New Zealand.

Justice Devendra Pathik has been a long serving member of he High Court while Justice Mataitoga took up his appointment this year.

Justice Mataitoga had previously been the director of public prosecutions, the chief executive of the ministry of foreign affairs and ambassador to the European Union.
