Moderate earthquake off Tonga's coast

A moderate earthquake rumbled through Tonga at about 12:35 a.m. Tonga time.

The quake was assigned a preliminary magnitude of 6 on the Richter scale by the U.S. Geological Survey Earthquake Center, but there were no immediate reports of injury or damage.

The temor's epicenter was reported to be about 170 kilometres south-southwest of Hihifo, Tonga, at a depth of 130 kilometres.
