Ousted Fiji PM seeks low-key return to Suva

4:29 pm on 27 August 2007

The ousted Fiji Prime Minister Laisenia Qarase says he is not expecting any celebration from supporters when he arrives in Suva on Friday.

Mr Qarase told Fijilive that he wants to remain anonymous and request his supporters not to be excited about his arrival.

He says he cannot wait to visit Suva as it has been eight months since he was isolated in his village in Lau by the military following the December coup.

The Fiji military has recently suggested that Mr Qarase's affairs are insignificant.

The interim regime banned Mr Qarase from travelling to Suva but subsequently claimed there was no ban.
