The chairman of Fiji's Visitors Bureau says if the country is to attract greater numbers of Chinese tourists, it will need to add to its attractions.

Patrick Wong says the tourist sector wants to see the high spending Chinese tourist visit Fiji rather than the tour groups.

But, he says it may take some time because the Chinese look for certain types of experiences.

"At the moment, Fiji nightlife is lacking. The Chinese is into gambling, shows, nightclubs and all that sort of thing. But, we as Fiji need to say to ourselves, whether we do want to go into that market or not. Gambling's certainly not acceptable in Fiji so we probably need to look at more towards cultural sights, world class shopping."
