10:19 am on 11 September 2007

The annual teuila festival which showcases Samoa's cultural heritage, traditions and music was officially opened by the Tourism Minister, Misa Telefoni in the capital, Apia, yesterday.

The festival which usually runs for a week has been shortened to 3 days because of the South Pacific Games which ended at the weekend.

From Apia, Elma Maua reports.

"There were winning performances from Samoa's best choirs with New Zealand's Wellington Mission also making an appearance with the opening night ending with a combined choir performance. The weather is perfect for today's outdoor event which includes a long boat race, traditional games and a variety show, a fashion show with take centre stage tonight with top local and international fashion houses parading their latest creations. The second half of the festival will resume in November when Miss Samoa will be selected to go forward to the Miss South Pacific competition next year."
