Samoa changes holiday list

1:02 pm on 14 September 2007

The Samoa government has announced some changes to its list of public holidays each year after calls from several business operators and politicians.

The ANZAC and Arbor Day holidays will only be commemorated but will no longer be observed as public holidays.

Another change is that all shops will stay open on holidays.

The change will take effect in 2008.

The government says the new amendments will help the general public get access to services provided by shops and businesses during public holidays.

It will also deal with the impact of holidays on the growth of businesses and companies.
