The Solomon Islands national government has donated vehicles and boats to Rennell and Bellona province

The Minister of Provincial Government and Rural Development, Japhet Waipora announced the donation at the end of the premier's summit.

The actual cost of the vehicles and boats was not announced but the Minister indicated a cost of over half a million dollars.

The donation included three vehicles and two boats.

Accepting the gifts, Rennell and Bellona Premier, Solly Tengemoana, said the province had faced many development challenges over the last 14 years.

He said its remote location and transportation difficulties added a lot of obstacles making life difficult for its people.

But he said the province has huge tourism potential if both the national and provincial government's work together to develop the industry.

Premier Tengemoana said the government donations will assist his administration to carry out its functions more effectively in the years ahead.
