10:29 am on 21 September 2007

Fiji's interim prime minister says people opposing the administration's initiatives and proposals like the setting up of the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption and the People's Charter are only delaying progress towards democracy.

Commodore Bainimarama says the legal actions against the administration's proposals will not assist in the process to democracy.

He says Fiji politicians are still not ready to assist in the setting up of a truly democratic government which would look after the interests of everyone in the country.

Commodore Bainimarama says the people of Fiji must come together now and accept that the military and the interim government are running the country and help it move forward.

He says the military is only running the country because the politicians are not ready to move the country forward.
