Police in Samoa have charged an Australian businessman with possession of narcotics after 14 grams of cannabis and drug pariphenalia were found on his yacht.

The acting police commissioner and spokesman, Papali'i Li'o, says earlier this week customs and police officers used sniffer dogs to search the 51-year old's yacht after a tip-off from informers.

Papali'i says the man is in custody but police will fight in court to deny bail until the case is heard in full.
