Missionaries praised in American Samoan conference

2:02 pm on 27 September 2007

The Samoa for Missions conference has been opened at a state dinner in American Samoa.

Samoa for Missions is a movement initiated by Samoan Christian leaders and the Youth with a Mission to continue the work of early Samoan missionaries who went out to preach the gospel to far flung and neighboring countries.

More than 150 off-island delegates are to attend the missionaries conference where the keynote speaker is Dr Loren Cunningham, the founder of Youth with a Mission.

Dr Cunningham told the delegates that their work in spreading the heritage of the early missionaries is a credit to Samoans.

"And I have often held up Samoan missionaries in various parts of the world to say how it should have been done. But we're also here to celebrate and announce the legacy has not died! It continues on, just as missionaries in the early days risked and even lost their lives."
