A senior Fiji public servant has appeared in court charged with official corruption, extortion and misconduct in office.
Inoke Devo, who as Commissioner Central was in charge of all government administration in Fiji's Central Division before he was suspended, has pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The offences include asking for a quantity of fish and two cartons of beer from the financial controller of the Toberua Island Resort in return for renewing its liquor licence.
Devo is also alleged to have asked for and accepted quantities of alcoholic drinks for renewing the liquor licences of several Suva nightclubs, liquor outlets and the Carlton Brewery.
As well, Devo is alleged to have used a government vehicle and official driver to collect alcoholic drinks from liquor outlets and asked the driver to falsify the vehicle logs.
The charges have been brought by the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption.
Nausori magistrate Vani Ravono has released Devo on bail of 600-US dollars until his next court appearance on November the 6th.
Ms Ravono has also ordered Devo to surrender his passport and has asked the
authorities to put his name on the blacklist of people banned from leaving Fiji.
