American Samoa Treasury tightens payroll regulations

11:00 am on 5 October 2007

The Treasury Department in American Samoa has issued new regulations setting new policies dealing with payrolls.

From October 1st only original time cards or time sheets will be accepted to process payroll, and Treasury will no longer accept scanned copies.

Each department is to ensure that supervisors or time keepers understand government laws and rules concerning payroll expenditures.

Employees must also sign time cards certifying that the hours worked are true and correct.

If the cards are not signed those employees will not be paid.

The Treasurer Velega Savali says the regulations are there to ensure all necessary controls are in place.
