Fiji tourism head questions need for review of travel advisories

The timing of a number of travel advisory reviews is being questioned at the Fiji Visitors Bureau.

Australia has upped its security risk level for Suva and New Zealand, the US and the UK

have issued revised advisories.

The reviews come after the lifting of the most recent imposition of emergency regulations.

The Chairman of the Visitors Bureau, Patrick Wong, says the extra caution advice seems inexplicable:

"I do not understand why the travel advisories have been heightened. Certainly Fiji is know to be a safe destination. Ever since the events of the fifth of Decmber, there hasn't been any activities with tourism or the movement of the general public around Fiji or any restrictions at all."

Mr Wong does not expect the latest advisories to affect tourist numbers.

He says the World Cup in France is likely to have a greater impact.
