Jonah Lomu to launch whale campaign at Forum in Tonga

The former All Black player, Jonah Lomu, is launching a campaign to save endangered humpback whales at the Pacific Island Leaders Forum in Tonga.

The launch will be hosted by the Tongan Princess, whose father banned whaling in the kingdom in 1978.

Whales currently migrate from their breeding areas in the Pacific to their feeding grounds in the Antarctic, where they will arrive in November.

The campaign is in direct response to Japan's intention to kill more than 1000 whales, including 50 humpbacks, as part of its scientific whaling programme in the Antarctic.

Jonah Lomu says the region can't afford to lose any more humpbacks, either in the Pacific, or in the Antarctic.
