Deciding to get back into training immediately after the All Blacks disappointing world cup performance appears to be just the tonic for Keven Mealamu and Isaia To'oeava.

The pair phoned Auckland coach Pat Lam immediately after the weekend's semi final win over Hawkes Bay to say they wanted to be involved in the Air New Zealand cup final against Wellington this weekend.

Lam will name his side on Thursday and he says the pair have very enthusiastic.

"They're in great knick, obviously they'v done a lot of conditioning, but I think more the fact that you can see that as soon as they came back with the boys and you know a lot of laughter a lot of enjoyment they've been buzzing at training it's been outstanding really."

Pat Lam says lock Ali Williams and winger Joe Rockoko told him they wanted some time off.
