Fiji police say a former Lord Mayor of Suva narrowly escaped death in September last year from a conspiracy to murder masterminded by his estranged wife.
The Fiji Times reports that the wife and four others have been arrested and charged after a year long investigation and released on bail.
One suspect is still being sought.
Assistant Commissioner Nasir Ali is quoted as saying the former Lord Mayor's 36-year old estranged wife had masterminded the plot fueled by a domestic dispute.
Mr Ali says all five have been charged with conspiracy to murder and attempted murder and are likely to appear in the Nasinu magistrate's court today.
