The Fiji capital Suva will have its second private hospital by early next year.

The Fiji National Provident Fund is reported to have become a major investor in what's to be known as the Suva Bayview Medical Hospital.

The new hospital will be an upgrade of what is currently the Waimanu Road Clinic and will provide outpatient, inpatient, diagnostic and laboratory services and an in-house pharmacy.

Clinic director and senior cardiologist, Dr Joji Malani, says the charges will be affordable.

Meanwhile, India's Apollo Hospital Group is continuing efforts to set up a major new hospital in Lautoka, which will offer services so far available only overseas.

This hospital is expected to lead to the development of medical tourism in Fiji.
