Taiwan allies seek improved Forum status for Taipei

11:10 am on 22 October 2007

Taiwan's Pacific Island allies say Taiwan should be accorded the same treatment given to the other Post Forum Partners.

The group says Taiwan's status in the Post Forum Dialogue must be examined and reviewed with the intent to upgradeit to the same status as the other Post Forum Dialogue partners.

The statement says the current dialogue arrangement regarding Taiwan causes an appearance of disrespect for Taiwan's allies, all of whom are full members of the Pacific Islands Forum.

Taiwan's Pacific allies are Solomon Islands, Marshall Islands, Kiribati, Nauru, Palau and Tuvalu.
