The U.S. House of Representatives has approved a bill that appropriates funding for coral reef preservation in American Samoa.

The Coral Reef Conservation Act of 2000 was sponsored by the territory's delegate to the Congress, Faleomavaega Eni Hunkin.

It provides funding for cooperative agreements for coral reef institutes in carrying out research and support for coral reef conservation.

At Faleomavaega's request, this legislation also provides funding for the establishment of a Marine Science Laboratory in American Samoa.
