The former Fiji navy commander and now director of immigration, Viliame Naupoto, is to receive further military training in India.

Commander Naupoto has told the Fijilive news website the Indian government has offered to train him for a year and he will be leaving sometime in December.

He says the offer came about because of the Fiji military's good relationship with its Indian counterpart.

Commander Naupoto was appointed director of immigration after the military takeover to clean up chronic corruption in the department.

His offer of training in India comes at a time when military co-operation with New Zealand, Australia and the United States has remained suspended since the coup.
