The Miss South Pacific pageant is expected to give its participating Pacific nations an important economic boost.

Contestants from across the Pacific will make the trip to Samoa next month, where the annual Miss South Pacific Pageant will be held.

A member of the Samoa Tourism Authority, Christina Leala, says the pageant is used as a platform for those involved to promote their countries as the preferred tourist destination.

She says the pageant has a definite impact on Samoa's revenue.

"The contestants are participating on behalf of their island nations, by a display of our culture and their talents, it's a great opportunity to advertise and attract more visitors to our islands. It's like an indirect impact that Miss South Pacific can actually have on the tourism sector in Samoa."

Christina Leala says the pageant also plays an important role in celebrating the women of the Pacific.
