Five people in the Northern Mariannas have been arrested for engaging in document fraud, employment of foreigners and inducement by fraudulent misrepresentation

The Marianas Variety reports the five were allegedly engaged in a scheme of sponsoring foreigners whose permits were expiring.

The Department of Labor allows non-resident workers 45 days to seek employment or transfer to a new employer upon the expiration of their one-year contract.

Non-resident workers who fail to transfer or find an employer within the 45 days must leave the CNMI.
