Opening of bids for privatising Samoa's public broadcaster needs Attorney general advice

9:22 am on 26 October 2007

The winning bid for privatising Samoa's public broadcaster remains on hold pending advice from the Attorney General.

Seven companies, including three from overseas, had expressed interest in owning the Samoa Broadcasting Corporation's television and radio stations, but two local companies have since withdrawn their bids.

But a government spokesperson says cabinet doesn't allow foreign companies to compete for the contract.

The government's board will meet on Monday to make their decision.
