Human rights high on agenda of Pacific Plan meeting

11:26 am on 29 October 2007

Pacific Island leaders' commitment to human rights will be discussed at a consultation on the regionally-endorsed Pacific Plan to be held in Auckland this week.

Over 35 Members of Parliament from 11 Pacific Island countries will attend the five-day meeting to discuss the integration of international human rights standards into national policy, practice and law in line with the Plan and their own national constitutions.

The Pacific Plan consistently refers to human rights, particularly under its goal of good governance.
