Fiji police say they are still ascertaining details about a court order preventing some military officers from leaving Fiji to serve on a UN peacekeeping mission to Iraq.
Police spokesman Sikeli Ligairi says the five men, including a police officer, were taken off the UN-chartered flight at Nadi airport during the weekend.
He says while none of the men is in custody, the reasons why the men have been detained are unclear at this stage.
"I could not really gather who issued the court order. But we have been told its come from the court, the order not to leave the country, although they have not been charged with any offence."
Sikeli Ligairi declined to name the officers or the case involved, but it is understood they are being treated as suspects in the case of Nimilote Verebasaga who died eight months ago while in military custody.
